Claro que os congressos dos partidos nos EUA já são uma hilariante palhaçada per se - o que para mim é um oxímoro, pois eu detesto palhaços. Com os seus relatos de quando-eu-estive-no-Vietname; com o show-off de esposas para ver quem é a mais bonita, bem vestida e potencial fada do lar; com as intervenções filiais de rapariguinhas - as filhas - a contar como salvaram o hamster de morrer afogado na sanita; com as tentativas frustradas de serem cantores líricos ou eloquente declamadores de poesia folclórica. É tudo muito giro. Mas visto através da janela do Daily Show é ainda melhor.
Panem et circenses, o povo (pelo menos o americano) só precisa disso.
Já imaginaram se as campanhas eleitorais em Portugal se pautasse pelos mesmos moldes? Seria muito mais emocionante e as revistas côr-de-rosa teriam muito mais matéria além de Cinha Jardim e Elsa Raposo. E sempre se mudava um pouquinho a rotina do bate-boca e da troca de acusações.

Big Brother? Tem muito mais piada o congresso dos Democratas.

Sure, the parties conventions in the States are a hilarious show per se. With all them when-I-was-in-Vietnam stories; with the wives show-off to see who's got the fairest, the most chic and best housekeeper; with the filial speeches of pretty young women - their daughters - telling how they saved the hamster from drowning in te toilet; with their frustrated attempts of being lyrical singers or eloquent tellers of corny poetry. It's all neat. But it gets better when watched through The Daily Show window.
Panem et cirenses, the people (at least the americans) only need that.
I wonder how it would be like if the elections campains in Portugal were just like in the US. It would surely be much more exciting and the tabloids would have a lot more to focus on than the usual socialite bitches. And it would take a break on the dissing routine in the politics.
